how to stop faux fur from shedding?

2026-03-05

To minimize shedding in faux fur, proper daily care and cleaning are key. Following a few simple steps can effectively reduce shedding.

It's normal for new faux fur to have some loose fibers. Gently shake the item and run a lint roller over it to remove surface fluff.

When wearing it, minimize friction and avoid contact with rough or sharp objects to prevent snagging and fiber loss. Store it hung in a well-ventilated area, avoiding prolonged compression or folding to prevent fiber breakage and loosening.

When cleaning, never machine wash or wring it out. Instead, gently hand wash it in cold water with a neutral detergent. After washing, press out excess water and air dry it in the shade. Remember: never expose it to direct sunlight or use a dryer. Once dry, lightly comb it with a wide-tooth comb to restore its fluffiness, which also helps reduce shedding.

In summary, as long as you avoid vigorous pulling, high temperatures, and rough cleaning, faux fur will generally not experience significant shedding and will remain stable for several years of normal wear.
