From an animal welfare perspective, real rabbit fur generally fails to meet ethical standards. The EU banned cage-raised fur rabbits in 2018 precisely because cage farming violates ethical standards.
However, synthetic rabbit fur fabrics now exist as perfect alternatives to real rabbit fur. These imitation furs offer numerous advantages: first, they are 100% cruelty-free, requiring no harm to rabbits and aligning perfectly with modern ethical values—even PETA recommends them. Second, reputable faux fur fabrics carry OEKO-TEX certification, tested for over 300 harmful substances. They are safe for skin contact and suitable for children's wear. Moreover, they are more practical than real fur—less prone to shedding, half the price, and requiring only regular machine washing for maintenance. Unlike real fur, it doesn't require dry cleaning. Now, even major international brands are experimenting with replacing real fur with faux rabbit fur. This way, they retain the soft, plush texture without the ethical burden, making it a worry-free choice to wear.
