Q: What is faux rabbit fur?

Faux rabbit fur is an artificial fabric designed to mimic real rabbit fur. It feels soft and fluffy, closely resembling the texture of genuine rabbit fur, yet it causes no harm to animals whatsoever. Made from synthetic fibers like polyester and acrylic, it is first woven into a base fabric, then trimmed and dyed to achieve a look and feel nearly identical to real rabbit fur.

Its greatest advantage is being “cruelty-free.” Reputable faux rabbit fur often carries OEKO-TEX® 100 certification—a standard that tests for over 300 harmful substances, ensuring the fabric is safe for skin contact. Additionally, New York State's Fur Labeling Law explicitly requires faux rabbit fur to be clearly labeled as “artificial fur,” preventing consumers from being misled into purchasing it as real fur.

The Humane Society also strongly endorses it as a superior alternative to real rabbit fur, even awarding brands that conscientiously use this fabric. More practically, it's more affordable than real rabbit fur, highly washable and durable, making it an excellent choice for coats, blankets, and small accessories.
